While the world and its worldly construct twisting and turning us into different directions and making us to take informed or uninformed decisions on the hourly (or sometimes in a matter of seconds) basis, I can’t help to wonder on how we get ourselves back on track on what really matters to us.
The distractions out there are enormous. The online platform, social media and television has become the noise of our daily life. Thanks to the unlimited data plan options and free Wi-Fi services, we are autonomically swiping left, right, bottom and up almost in every chances we get.
So, let’s be honest here. How do you navigate yourself every day, every hour and every minute honoring what matters to you most? What do you do to make sure that you are on track everyday protecting your need and vision, and don’t get lost in this exciting world in which we are living in now? How are you setting your compass straight and making sure that you are on the right path?
I believe there are certain steps that can be taken to help managing life’s important goals. Here are the 5 step by step procedures in helping us to manage and prioritise our lives with what matters most.
- VISUALISE WHAT MATTERS TO YOU.
- Visualizing is known to improve neuroplasticity of the brain. Write down what matters to you in ways that get yourself motivated and excited about it. There are many cool software and apps out there that may help to create mind maps that works for you. If you love painting/drawing, then visualise it on your drawing board. If you are more of an audio person, record your values and visions and keep listening to it all the time. Neuroplasticity needs motivation, alertness, awareness and hard work for it to work. Make what matters to you, matters to your brain until it becomes a norm.
- MAKE YOUR HABITS WORK FOR YOU
- What are the habits that you are not proud of, and still difficult to get rid of? What if you like to surf the internet aimlessly for hours and ended up regretting the time you have lost afterwards? What if you love travelling the world just chilling and enjoying life and have regrets later that you have missed an opportunity to do something else? Obviously, these habits are important for you since they make you happy (why would you do it otherwise?).
- Why not make use of them and fit what matters to you into the habit? If you love surfing the internet, perhaps surfing about your passion is not a bad idea. Maybe travelling and networking with people important to your vision would kill 2 birds with one stone.
- Explore new ways to make your habits to work for you. Have a plan, implement, monitor and improvise to own your habits.
- DAILY REFLECTION AND IMPROVISATION
- Ask yourself self-provoking questions at the end of each day. Keep a journal and monitor your progress. Awareness is key for progression. Some ideas for questions that you could ask yourself:
- What significant event has happened today?
- What makes this event significant?
- What is the lesson learnt?
- How satisfied am I today with my lifestyle?
- What changes should I introduce in my life next?
- Ask yourself self-provoking questions at the end of each day. Keep a journal and monitor your progress. Awareness is key for progression. Some ideas for questions that you could ask yourself:
- UNDERSTAND AND MANIPULATE YOUR ENVIRONMENT
- You can’t change where you were born, but you can decide where you want to grow and with whom your close circle of network will be. What are the current social environment that is not working for you? What about your workplace, your work desk, chair, the air condition in the room, are they set in the optimum level that boosts your productivity and happiness?
- Get rid of negative environment that does not resonate with you. Saying ‘NO’ to one thing means you are saying ‘YES’ to something else that matters more to you.
- SYNERGISE
- Create a creative corporation within you and come up with ways to bring every part of your being into play. Assess your current mental, emotional, physical and social self and collaborate on how to bring each part of you to work together towards what matters most to you. The more you understand your personality, traits, attitude and view of life, the more you will be aligned in doing what matters to you effortlessly.
Life starts to happen when we focus on what matters to us. With all the wonderful distractions lurking around us, it is up to us create opportunities out of these distractions and fulfil our personal vision.
